| Magnolia Grandiflora leaves at Hindleap
June and October 2004
Clockwise from top left
- Goliath (practically glabrous)
- Samuel Sommer
- Gallissonniere
- Kay Parris
- Brown Velvet (DD Blanchard)
Kay Parris and DD Blanchard are two cultivars recently introduced from
the USA. Their reputation is based on the quality of the foliage rather
than on exception al flowers.
The difference between them and the three cultivars
more common in the UK is more marked on the previous years leaves shown
in the June photograph than on the current year’s leaves shown in
the October photograph, the indumentum being more persistent on the new
cultivars. DD Blanchard looks especially desirable and unusual.
