Camellia x williamsii 'George Blandford'
C.saluenensis x C.japonica 'Akashigata'
J.C.Williams, Caerhays, Cornwall, c.1940, introduced 1962.
AM 1965, AMT 1974, AGM (2002) 2012
Vigorous and upright initially spreading later with branches stiffly held.
Flowers: medium - sometimes semi-double but usually full peony form; deep pinkish mauve.
Foliage: smallish, mid green and semi-matt.
Very floriferous over a long period, being one of the first to flower. A superb harbinger of spring,
not sufficiently widely known.
