Camellia saluenensis
Distribution: Western and central Yunnan and southern Sichuan in China.
The flowers are 4-8.5cm across, single, variable in colour from rose-pink to white with variable pollen colour; abundant.
Winter to Spring.
Leaves are 2.5-5.5cm long and 1.2-2.5cm wide, mid green, finely serrate.
It makes a small tree up to 6m tall.
It is remarkably tolerant of dry soil conditions but is prone to dieback in humid climates; not partucularly frost hardy, surviving -10C in windless conditions but easily damaged by wind when frozen.
