Upright dark red-purple buds open to flowers with 10-12 (occasionally more) pointed tepals
red-purple at the base, grey-purple at the apex, white inside at maturity, opening flat to 20cm
across: late April
Foliage: broadly ovate rugose leaves usually with acuminate tips, averaging 14cm by 9cm with
brown tomentose petioles.
Recognise by: the rusty tomentose petioles and the large flat flowers with pointed tepals.
Easy to root and grow. Flowers in 6 years from seed. Suitable for small gardens.
