Magnolia 'Butterflies'
M. acuminata 'Fertile Myrtle' x M. denudata 'Sawada's Cream'
This clone was raised by Phil Savage using 'Fertile Myrtle', a free fruiting clone, with a good form of M. denudata obtained from Ken Sawada of Semmes, Alabama.
It is a fast growing small to medium sized tree with an upright habit.
The deep yellow precocious flowers have 10-14 tepals that are midway in shape and poise between the parents. Like the flowers of 'Elizabeth', they have prominent red stamens.
It is said to have the deepest yellow flowers of any magnolia and hence is much desired.
