A single stemmed upright tree, probably to 12m by 8m
10 year height/spread: 6m/3.5m
Upright deep red-purple buds open to flowers with 11-12 red-purple veined spatulate tepals,
rose purple inside, opening to a conical shape up to 20cm across; fragrant: April.
Foliage: elliptic matt leaves up to 18cm by 12cm.
Recognise by: the narrowly upright growth and the flowers with 11-12 tepals, paler than M.'Spectrum'.
Easy to root and grow. Flowers in around 9 years from seed. Quite fastigiate, and, though tall,
perhaps suitable for small gardens.
