Upright red-purple buds open to flowers with 8-10 red-purple spatulate tepals, white inside,
opening to a conical shape up to 10cm across; fragrant: early May, steadily recurrent into July.
Foliage: acuminate rugose leaves averaging 12.5cm by 7.5cm with rusty tomentose petioles.
Recognise by: the rusty tomentose petioles and the flowers with 8 tepals; the late flowers.
Easy to root and grow. Flowers in 6 years from seed. Suitable for small gardens.
