Magnolia amoena
Syn: Tienmu magnolia.

Grows to 8-12m tall.

Flowers: fragrant pale pink flowers appear before the leaves in early spring, cup-shaped to 50mm tall, 3 of the 9 tepals are erect and 6 are reflexed; contrasting boss of purplish red stamens. The fruits are 50mm long and cylindrical in shape.

Foliage: oblong, green, 100-150mm x 50mm, downy along veins on underside.

Tienmu mountains in NW Zhejiang Province, eastern China 700-1000m in broadleaf forest.
This extremely rare beautiful species was discovered in 1933 in the Tienmu Mountains of China. Mature trees are rumoured to bloom three times a year. Flower buds are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
