History: Introduced from Darjeeling Botanic Garden by Hilliers.
Recognise by: uniform flower colour.
Among the forms of M. campbellii to flower in April or even May.
Young growth said to be comparatively tender in the Savill Garden.
History: It was propagated vegetatively from a tree growing in the Lloyd Botanic Garden, Darjeeling, India and named by Hillier Nurseries of Winchester. Their plant did not flower at Hillier arboretum until 1974.
Often confused with 'Betty Jessel' (which is a seedling raised from the same plant),but the white flush on the inside of the flower is not as prominent.
