Rhododendron 'Ascot Brilliant'
thomsonii X 'Blandyanum'
Raised in 1861 and possibly one of the earliest R. thomsonii
Flowers: 10-16 lax truss, broadly funnel-shaped, 40x45-60mm, 6-lobed, inside strong to light purplish pink
, outside nearly vivid red with a few dark red markings; filaments and styles pink. Calyx lobes up to 7mm long, often tinged red.
Pedicels green, very slightly hairy.
Foliage: elliptic, up to 115mm long, dark green above, slightly glaucous below.
Medium sized shrub.
