Flowers: deep crimson, crimson or scarlet, 5 nectar pouches.
March - May.
Leaves: rugose, indumentum usually woolly fawn or brown
Introduced: 1884 to France.
Recognise by: the arboreum type leaves and the woolly indumentum and the usually red flowers.
Less hardy than most forms of arboreum but the warmer winters make it possible to grow in many areas.
