Height: shrub 0.6 - 1m
10 year height/spread: 0.3m/0.5m
Flowers: trusses of 1-3 white through pink to red and purple, thimble-like on long upright pedicels.
May / June.
Introduced: 1912 by Forrest from Yunnan, and collected recently from 1981.
Distribution: Arunachal Pradesh, NE Burma, S Tibet and Yunnan, 2700 - 4900m.
Recognise by: habit of varying heights but always mat-forming; the erect pedicels with thimble shaped flowers,
the pedicels elongating in fruit; ovate leaves with hairs on the midrib on the
upper surface, whitish below (pale green in cremastum); the thick bent style.
A distinct small or prostrate species.
Free flowering from young. The various different forms are all good: for details
