Flowers: purplish blue, other forms lavender blue through to purplish blue to
2.5cm across.
March/May, often repeating in the autumn.
Introduced 1903 by Forrest from N.W. Yunnan
Distribution: N.W. Yunnan, S.W. Sichuan 2400-4700m
Recognise by: flower colour, very short stamens and style, overlapping creamy
yellow scales on leaf underside (Hippophae sp.)
An easily grown upright small shrub, not as fussy about drainage as some dwarf
rhododendrons.
