Flowers: white with a crimson basal blotch.

Introduced: 1913 by Forrest from NE Yunnan.
Distribution: NE Yunnan, S Sichuan, 3000 - 4300m.
Recognise by: large shining dark leaves with fawn indumentum; large well filled trusses.
Epithet: king
All forms of this species develop into superb hardy 'big leaf' trees. Needs
wind shelter to protect the foliage from damage.
